　　StudentsatSt.Mary’sschoolgotaglimpseintosometraditionalChinesedancing.Theworld-renownedKung-FutroupeWulinHanyuncombinesChinesemusicandmartialartsintoamesmerizingperformance.

　　“ChinahasthisfivethousandyearoldculturethatmostAmericansdon’tevendiptheirtoesintosothisgivesthesekidsalittletasteofit,”Phillipssaid.

　　Thegrouphasperformedattheopeningceremonyinthe2008OlympicsandhastraveledaroundtheworldanddecidedtomakeapitstopinMedford.

　　“They’reinforarealtreat,”saidPhillips.

　　St.Mary’sisthefirstschoolinNorthAmericatohaveaConfuciusclassroom.

　　“AlotofthemstudyMandarinintheclassroomandthereisnoplacetouseit.Ifyou’restudyingSpanishyoucanuseitinthisvalleybutMandarinyoucan’talwaysuseit,sotohaveagrouplikethistocomefromChinaandinteractwithourstudentsandspeakalittleChinesewiththemitmakestheirlanguagestudiesreal,”Phillipssaid.

　　BlendingthetwocultureshasbeensomethingSt.Mary’sstrivesfor,someofthestudentshaveevenstudiedabroadinChina.

　　“ForourstudentstobeabletolearnMandarinandtraveltoChinaitopensupnewworldsforthemandit’skindofcornybutitbringspeaceandharmonywithourtwonations,”saidPhillips.

　　Senior,MiklosBowlinghasbeenstudyingMandarinforfiveyearsandbelievestheperformancehasdeeperimpact.

　　“Itkindofhelpsusunderstandwhatit’sliketohavethatsortofhistorybehindyouandIthinkthatkindofmakesuscloser,”Bowlingsaid.

　　StudentsevengotinonthefunandlearnedsomeKung-Fumoves.
