Belonging to the Yangshao Culture period (dating back about 5,000 to 7,000 years), the small-mouth pointed-bottom jars were believed to be water collectors, because the Miaodigou people did not know how to drill wells at that time.
Located in the south of the ancient Shanzhou city in Sanmenxia city of Central China's Henan province, the Miaodigou site has been excavated twice, suggesting that the Miaodigou era is a transitional period from Yangshao Culture (5000-3000 BC) to Longshan Culture (2500-2000 BC).
The Miaodigou Yangshao Culture Museum is located in the Miaodigou Archaeological Site Park in Sanmenxia city of Central China's Henan province. Stepping into the Museum, you can see a huge dome decorated with petal patterns, the most representative ornamentation of Miaodigou-style painted pottery.
